Grafts

Some abnormalities, as well as advanced gum disease, that can not be treated periodontically or  non-surgically, may require  soft tissue grafts.  Soft tissue grafts are small pieces of bone matter that are surgically integrated into the affected area.  This helps to prevent additional bone loss and recession of gums and can help reduce pain-causing root sensitivity.

Soft tissue grafts can be used to cover an exposed root or correct uneven gum lines.  Where there is tooth loss, an indentation may result in the gums or jawbone where the tooth use to be. The jawbone begins to recede because it is not receiving any support, creating an unnatural look.  Ridge augmentation is the procedure used to recapture the natural contour of the gums and jaw.  A new tooth can then be implanted; creating a natural look that compliments your smile.
