Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers (dental veneers) are a natural looking solution to a wide range of cosmetic issues. Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain (about as thick as fake fingernails) that are typically bonded to the front and tops of the teeth. Because they are thin, light can shine through them and they take on the natural color of the underlying tooth structure. Only a minimal amount of tooth structure needs to be removed.  This makes porcelain veneers a more conservative alternative to dental crowns, since it requires that less tooth surface be compromised.  At UAD, our porcelain veneers dentists work with you to provide you with the shape and shade you desire.  Porcelain veneers can provide the cosmetic patient straighter, whiter and more even teeth.

Advantages:

They are beautiful, strong (once bonded in place) and durable. Minimal tooth reduction is needed to install them, and they can often be repaired in the mouth with bonding techniques.  Porcelain veneers are stain resistant, match your other teeth precisely and usually last 10 - 15 years.  With proper care; daily brushing, flossing and periodic checkups, veneers can enhance your smile for years to come. 

Disadvantages:

Their placement requires some tooth reduction, and the procedure is non-reversible, making you dependent on veneers or replacement veneers for the rest of your life.  Porcelain veneers cost more than composite resin bonding, may be more sensitive to hot and cold and do not protect against decay.  Initially you may experience some sensitivity to hot and cold.  But this should subside within two weeks.  If you grind your teeth, you may want to request a mouth guard for when you are sleeping.  Ask your dentist is veneers are an option for you.
